Ghost Stories

Woon Chit (105/March)
The treasurer's house is a big, old building in York, which is a famous city inEngland. It is also a famous haunted house there.Harry Martindale was the victim in this ghost story. He worked in a veryold room under the office of treasurer's house. One day, he suddenly heard atrumpet. He thought that was a voice of a radio that was just bought by hisboss. After that, he saw a Roman soldier walked into room from the wall. Therewas about twenty dead Roman soldiers. One of them had a trumpet in hishand. He said later that he was frightened.Later, Harry jumped up and ran to his boss. His face was white. His bosslooked at him and asked if he saw the soldiers. His boss consoled him that thesoldiers just walked across the room and were never dangerous.

I read a ghost story from the Reading for Pleasure compilation. The story talks about a little girl who dies in the fire. Someone moves into the house, and the teenager was scared of the little girl as she always stood in the bathroom and looked at the teenager. First, the teenager was just afraid of what he had seen. His parents and his friends also saw the little girl, but they didn't say anything. One day, the teenager found out the history of the little girl, After that, she left and disappeared into the bathroom, and was never to be seen again.Actually, I think seeing someone’s soul or something we call ghost is nothing to fear about.I feel they are the good-natured and normally they don't hurt people. If you see a ghost, that means he/she wanted somebody to know that they have crossed over. So we should pray for them to rest in peace.

A Better Tomorrow

Ahmad Nizam (105/March)
The poem “A Better Tomorrow" describes a special person who has just come into the poet's heart. The poet's life has changed a lot because of that person. All the sadness, emptiness and sorrow are no longer present in the poet’s life. This person might be very important for the poet. Lastly, the poet says that his love for that person will grow deeper or burn brighter.

The Wolf, The Goat and The Cabbages

Yoshida (105/March)
I think the story "The Wolf, The Goat and The Cabbages" is very interesting because it teaches one to think very carefully. If you choose the wrong way, one will be eaten by the others. There are some rules you have to follow. You could only take one person or one load of goods at a time. However, the wolf will eat the goat. On the other hand, if you opt for the other choice, the goat will eat the cabbages too. Therefore, you have to think very carefully when you want to make your decision.
Derek Tan (105/March)
After I had read through this story, I found that it is an interesting passage. This story talks about a man who made his living by ferrying people and their goods across a river .One day he was asked to deliver a wolf ,a goat and cabbages across a river .The difficulty of delivering these three things is that the man cannot leave the wolf and the goat together alone or the goat and cabbages together alone .However after thinking a long time, I still couldn't find a solution. When I saw the answer ,I realized that I was so stupid.

I Love You

Rachael (105/March)
The poem shows that even though we may not aware of what the future holds, there is still someone who will come to our lives and take our sadness away. Once we have found true love, it will fill a void in the heart and no emptiness will exist anymore.True love will be the light in your life and leads you to a better future.

A Tortoise and a Hippopotamus

Viviene Yeo (105/March)
The story "A Tortoise and a Hippopotamus",is an extraordinary story of the unlikely friendship between a tortoise and a hippopotamus. The baby hippopotamus was left alone by his family in the tsunami on December 26th, 2004. He was frightened, shocked and helpless but was rescued and given a home. It is extremely cruel to the baby as he had lost his family when he needed them the most. So,Owen, the poor baby hippopotamus rushed straight to the old giant tortoise as soon as he was released into the park. In my opinion, it was the only thing, which could give him a sense of security at that moment. The poor, exhausted creature had finally found something to rely on. Mzee, the tortoise had shown his friendliness and kindness to Owen when the baby hippo desperately needed it. The friendship between the 2 creatures is amiracle. It tells the world that the relationship between animals isprecious and incomparable. Love can touch the world and the relationship between all living things can make our world a better place. It is a special kind of bonding between all living things. It is a miracle, yet it is also a promise that will be with us until the end.

My Friend

Pei Yee (105/March)
The poem's title is "My Friend". It talks about the author's friend and him. When he is injured or sad, his friend can share his pain with him. When he is lost, his friend is like a lamp who can show him the right way. Maybe they can't get along but they will try their best to do. Together they are able to sail across all the bad times no matter what happens. He hopes they remain friends from the start till the end of time . All the words are from his heart.I like this poem very much. It's because if we can find a friend like this, we will feel very happy. A friend can accompany us when we're happy or unhappy. Besides your family, friends are very important to everyone. Believe me, having friends is better than having enemies.

Snowball of love

Mohd. Naquib (105/March)
This story is about a boy who loves a beautiful girl called Gossamer Campbell. She was very quiet and she never smiled at him or even said hello. Gossamer never wanted to talk to him and she would always looked away and laughed with her friend when he tried to talk to her. One day when they were playing snowballs, Gossamer threw all her snowballs towards a boy called Gardon Staples. When this boy threw a snowball towards her, she didn't smile at him. Instead, Gossamer and her friends laughed at his red cold ears and Gossamer threw a snowball towards him and he caught it and he kept it as he thought that the snowball was a snowball of love. He was very happy and he wrote a letter to Gossamer to tell her that he wanted to see her after school. But he placed the letter in the wrong shoes. The shoes belonged to Harriet. Harriet liked him but she knew that he liked Gossamer. They met and Harriet seemed very sad because the boy didn't like her. After a while, the boy wrote a letter to Harriet to tell her that he wanted to see her after school because he had already fallen in love with Harriet

The Healing Power of Music

Tan Kai Chiun (105/March)
Music has the magical power of healing. In the article, there was an Electivemule named Viviene who was able to talk in public after she had experiencemusic. Researchers also found that music helped people to cope with stress andpain. It helps them to reduce pain and recover faster. Music also seems toactivate different parts of brain. In my opinion, music is a gift from nature. We are born to enjoy music. That is the reason music has such a magical power on humans. Besides that, music is also a worldwide language that connects us together. We can feel what theothers are feeling through music, although we were never taught to understand the languageof "music".
Lim Zexin (105/March)
I read several articles about the fantastic effects of music. Research indicates that if pregnant mothers let their babies listen to classical music (such as Mozart’s music) , the baby will grow well. New Zealand farmers also found that when cows listen to cheerful music, their milk output will increase as well. Music has a big influence on a person’s feelings. Soft music can comfort someone who is hot-tempered. Heavy metal rock ‘n’ roll can release one’s tension. The common treatment for patients is prescribing medicine to patients or surgery but musical treatment is unusual. Using music to cure a patient’s soul is a great idea. Dr Bernard Lown said that a doctor duty is not only to heal patients, but to cure their minds as well and I think music treatment is a practical application to this idea.
